Canicross

We love running and we love dogs, so let’s go running with dogs

Soon after our first Trail Betws in 2013 we were approached by Canicross Anglesey to see if we would consider including canicross in our next event. “We don’t know, what is it?” went the reply, and soon followed our introduction to the wonderful and slightly bonkers world of trail running with your best friend. Several years later, we are still hooked.

We also recommend that you get involved with a local canicross group…

Essential Information

Dogs must be at least 12 months old to compete in any of our canicross races

Runners must ensure that dogs are fit and able to run the distance

Dogs must wear a canicross harness, correctly fitted to allow them to breathe easily

Runner and dog(s) must be joined by a bungee and waist belt

Please notify us in advance if you are competing with a bitch in season. Pregnant bitches are not allowed to compete

Reactive dogs can compete but we need to be notified beforehand. Open basket muzzles are permitted and we ask that you make it clear to other competitors that you have a reactive dog that needs space

Trail and canicross races will start separately

Trail starts may feature loud noises, canicross starts will be quiet

Please be clear when calling out before overtaking another team and be sure to give them plenty of notice as to which side you are passing on. Likewise, if you are being overtaken please give the passing team plenty of room to pass safely

Control of your dog is required at all times. The rightful owner of a dog is responsible for said dog’s behaviour at all times and we recommend canicross runners have their own liability insurance (or family insurance) for any damages that their dog may commit, or injuries that the dog may cause. Our events are covered by public liability insurance as standard.

Dog Control Orders are in force in Betws-y-coed
